æ°‘ä¿—å¦ (Folklore) Imagination

6th grade interdisciplinary

This collaborative and integrated project has students focusing on the power and effect of imagination, folklore, art, history, stories, and more!

Products: Original Folklore and sewed Creature with voice box

Students defined imagination and began to understand its impact on the individual and the world around them. They began to see the impact of imagination in the arts that can connect and boost unique, creative thinking and processing. With their curiosity, wonderings, and imagination, students created their own personal creatures and wrote an original folklore.

In the arts, they practiced and implemented drawing basics, art style, contrast, inking, monochromatic art, sewing skills, personality, and drama in voice for audio recording boxes. They learned and honored craftsmanship, and saw how the arts can bring life, energy, and boldness to what they want to share and say in the world.

In humanities, they learned about different types of folklore and the purpose of folklore. They used a guiding text When the Sea Turned to Silver, for inspiration from Chinese Folklore. Using these resources students created their own original folklore based on their creature they made in Studio M. These stories also included the student as a character in their folklore, their creature, and a lesson or moral that the audience could learn. They learned about Ancient China to better understand the context of Chinese Folklore.

Folklore Imagination project brought these creatures to life!

Classroom Redesign

8th grade science

Essential Questions

  1. How do you engineer a sound structure?

  2. How can collaborations between industry professionals and students impact a classroom projects?

  3. How does the infrastructure/design of a classroom impact student experience?

Students will take part in a series of construction challenges in groups to engage in several science and engineering practices and apply their knowledge to a large scale remodeling of classroom infrastructure.

Process Exhibition:

Students are working in collaboration with our facilities team and school to budget, plan/design and remodel spaces in each of their classrooms. They will then pitch a portfolio of their classroom renovations during exhibition and have the community vote on which portfolio we will be building this school year.
