Reflection on Lesson Study

The process of lesson study has been extremely helpful in building more impactful relationships between students in our classroom, allowing students to grow in their academic confidence, and creating more well scaffolded lessons.

Our problem of practice focused on students viewing themselves as valuable members of the learning community. Because of this and the things we implemented, some students have shown evidence of better relationships with each other in the classroom. Part of what we implemented in the PDSA Cycles was pairing students into CFFs. They had partners who they held accountable, asked questions, and gave advice. This was implemented intentionally during class, and then students checked in with each other on their own time. Having CFFs allowed students to have more positive interactions with each other and built our classroom culture in a positive way.

Students have also shown growth in their academic confidence and confidence in themselves as valued community members. Growing this sense of community belonging has positively impacted our classroom culture.

This also helped us as teachers support each others' planning. We were able to scaffold the lesson study day in a way that was more beneficial for the students and more efficient to the host teacher. We learned a lot and got a lot of resources from our KO (Knowledgeable Other).
