Theory of Action

This lesson is based on our theory that students, when given specific scaffolds, will engage in academic vulnerability; which will increase their confidence and their sense of being a valuable member of the learning community.

Content Understanding Goal

Students will recognize the role of a hero in narrative fiction as a metaphor for human growth, struggle, achievement and learning. Students will understand the importance of using textual evidence to support their claims in a verbal exchange of ideas with their peers that builds on each other’s learning.

Task: Socratic Seminar

Students will participate in 2 round of socratic seminars that are 4 minutes long. They will observe a peer that they are "coaching" for another 2 rounds of socratic seminars.
